In the prison Vania lived the day after day she had spent in silence. It has been a month since he was named a suspect.
For him time goes so slow. There's not much he can do in his cell. At least his cell is now much better than his old cell. All thanks to Leon. A hero who came without ever expecting it. Maybe this is God's reward for the good his parents once did. For Vania herself, felt that her whole life was only sinning.
“This is my karma,” whispered Vania to the cold wall that shut her up.
“Mother Vania, there are guests for you.” The prison officers came. “Quick out! If you know who's coming, you'll definitely be happy.” The female attendant smiled sympathetically at Vania.
His little visitor that day became the most beautiful surprise for Vania. Aileen! Aileen came with Julian. Vania smiled broadly to welcome the arrival of her baby.
“Aileen, Darling! Mama's Loving.” Vania knelt down in order to hug Aileen . He rubbed his daughter's face. He's so missed!
“Mama!” Aileen kept crying while hugging Vania's neck. “Mama when to go home?”
“Soon, Darling, soon! You wait for Mama, yeah, honey?” Vania let go of Aileen's embrace so she could clearly see the face of her little daughter. He stroked Aileen's face while tidying Aileen's strands of hair. His finger gently swept Aileen's tears away. “Don't cry, Darling. Mama wants to see your smile.”
“How are you doing, Vania?” Avan greeted Vania awkwardly. He stood stiffly before Vania. The prison building made him uneasy and uncomfortable. Imagining Vania spending her time here, Avan doesn't know how to behave.
Vania stood up, looking at Avan. He ignored Avan's pleasantries and said, “why did you come here? Where's Mama?”
Avan lowered his face, unable to return Vania's eyes. “Your mother is not well and Aileen keeps whining to see you. So, I had to bring her here.”
Vania breathed a long breath. He understood, Avan would never take the initiative to visit him in prison. Sure was! A cowardly man like him must have chosen to stay out of trouble. Of himself. “What's a severe Mama pain?”
“No. Mama's just too tired. Nothing serious.”
“I beg of you, Avan. Please take care of Mama and Aileen while I'm here. You know for yourself I no longer have anyone to help me.” Actually Vania doesn't like asking Avan for anything. But how else? Avan may be the most selfish man he has ever known, but he's the only one he can trust looking after his daughter.
“I know. Don't think about this too much. Just focus on your case.” Avan turned to Aileen and stroked the little girl's head. "Aileen, we're both having fun, aren't we?”
Aileen nodded and smiled sweetly. “Yes, Mama. Papa Julian accompanied Aileen to the park. Mama quickly get out of here so we can play together again.”
Tears should be growing in Vania's eyes. He quickly wiped it off and clasped Aileen's hand. “Is Aileen a good boy as long as Mama isn't around? Aileen has to keep the spirit of control to the hospital and obey the doctor's words, okay? After Mama comes home later, Mama will take Aileen for a walk wherever you want. So, Aileen had to take good care of herself. Don't forget to take the medicine, Darling?”
“Mama promise?” Aileen pulled out her little finger.
“Appointment!” Vania smiled as she linked her own pinky to Aileen's finger.
“Did they treat you well here?” Avan asked again.
“Yes, of course. I'll stay here until the trial.”
“Tempo days, they also came to ask me about your case,”tempo Avan.
“Why? What do they ask?” Vania hunts down Avan with questions.
“I didn't think it turned out they were looking for information through you. What did you tell them? Please, Avan, tell me everything, I want to know the details of my case. Did they come to you because you were the father of Aileen?”
“Actually ...” Avan cleared his throat before continuing his words. “They were looking for me because my face was captured by CCTV cameras in the hotel lobby at the time of the incident.”
“What? You there? Wh why? For what?” Vania surprised.
“I'm sorry Vania, I deliberately followed you on that day.” Avan finally confessed.
Vania looked at him with a huff. “What do you want?”
“I just want to see with my own eyes the extent of your relationship with Johan Baroto.” Avan moved unsettled.
“Then?” Vania folded her hands in front of her chest. He was upset that he had to discuss his case in front of Aileen. But now is the only chance to ask Avan everything. The man would not necessarily come visit him here again.
“Ya, already! That'sthat's all. I just got to the lobby, saw you come in. After that, I waited a while there and when I saw Barli coming, I immediately left. Barli was the only guy I didn't want to see again. I don't want to find a partner with him.”
“I mean, why did you have so much trouble figuring out my relationship with Johan? What's your motive?” Vania's eyes narrowed suspiciously.
Avan scratched his head wrong. “Eh, the, anu. You know who Johan Baroto is. Many companies were lining up to submit proposals to her. He's the most sought after entrepreneur who needs investors. Me included. I've waited so long just to get Johan and present my work program. So, I think if you really have a special relationship with Johan Baroto, I can ask for your connection.”
Vania rolled her eyes. “Oh, yes! I should have known,” he said cynically. “Unfortunately Johan is now dead and if he is still alive, I have no interest in mixing up our romance with work.”
“That's because you've gotten a lot from Johan Baroto.” Avan snorted annoyed at feeling underestimated. “I don't know? Half of the shares are yours. Crazy one! You're a millionaire now.”
“Stop your bullshit, Avan. I don't like your tone.”
“Omong empty? Is this bullshit?” Avan threw an open envelope at Vania.
Vania quickly grabbed it and read it. An official letter contains a notice to be present at the reading of the will of the late Johan Baroto, accompanied by a footnote that his presence may be represented by a lawyer or anyone he bestows power on.
“It's clear your name is in Johan Baroto's will. If not, what is the letter sent to your home address? In the near future you may not just be a millionaire!” Julian's eyes flashed with excitement. Her lips revealed a greedy smile. “Because you are not allowed to attend the event, I will help you take care of this matter.”
“Don't dream, Avan. We still don't know what the will is. For God's sake, I really don't think at all about stocks, inheritances, anything! Look at my situation!” Vania hates Avan's obsession. “Again, I have a good lawyer to take care of it. Please don't bother.”
“So what you said! I go!” Avan suddenly felt annoyed. He took Aileen by the hand and forced her to go home.
Vania waved sadly at the two of them as she continued to look at the figure of the two walking away. He sees Avan putting his hat back on and face mask on the road, reminding Vania of the mysterious figure of the man who crossed paths with him in front of the hotel room. Could it? Nah!
