“I'm out, Miss.” Azlan was about to leave the room.
“Do not!” sergeant Alexa with a focused gaze to his laptop screen.
“Then, do I have to wait for you here?”
“Ya.”
Azlan turned his head towards the room's glass barrier. He saw the employees downstream in front of the room as if he was curious about what Alexa and himself did in one room after the incident in the meeting room. And strangely, there was one employee who had been pacing back and forth. Azlan pulled the curtains and closed the glass, so that people outside could no longer see his activities inside. The gaze of the people passing by made him feel uneasy, it was better for the room to be closed at all.
That morning Alexa was not so busy, her work did not pile up. No reports coming in. Mid-month is indeed the time for Azlan to relax. The rush will only hit at the beginning and end of the month. Closing schedules often make him focus on the work so that there are no report errors when the report goes to the director's desk. Because all the reports will pass his signature first, and that is a big responsibility that he has to shoulder.
To kill boredom, Azlan sat on the sofa in the corner of the room and opened the Al Qur’an application. He then read the holy verses in his heart.
Azlan then turned his head when he smelled the fragrance he was very familiar with, he found Alexa standing by his side. The girl looked at him with raised eyebrows.
“Since I've been talking to you, and you've been ignoring me. It turns out this makes you too cool to not realize my call,” said Alexa staring at a row of verses that appear on Azlan's phone.
“Sorry, I didn't hear you.” So cool to read the holy verses al Qur’an, Azlan to not hear the surrounding sound.
“It Al Qur’an?” Alexa stared at Azlan's phone screen which showed the holy verses of Al Qur’an appearing there.
“Ya.”
“For what do you worship?”
“Helooow... I'm not answered?” Alexa advanced the head of the secretary subdued him, making Azlan move quickly back his head.
“The ideals of a simple Muslim and only one, namely the goodness in the afterlife, that is all. Azlan actually wanted to say he wanted to meet God, but that answer seemed too deep for an Alexa.
“You're sure heaven and hell exist? If it turns out all that is not there, you are free to worship.”
The deg! Azlan's heart beat hard to hear the sentence uttered by Alexa. Even Alexa who in his ID card is a Muslim does not believe in the contents of his book. “I believe my book, Al Qur’an. Of course also believe in its contents.”
Alexa's brain digested the sentence she had just heard. “Then, if there is no heaven or hell, will you obey your Lord?”
“My goal is not heaven, nor is it fear of hell. But God. Only Allah.”
Alexa finds confidence in Azlan's eyes. The man in front of him was very confident in the truth of his religion, in contrast to Alexa who had been doubting the truth of the holy book of Muslims, even though he was also a Muslim. Because until that moment, he did not believe in the existence of life after death.
“Learn many things from the Qur’an, you will discover who you really are.” Azlan began to be interested in religion. The shallowness of Alexa's understanding of the Qur’an, makes Azlan feel like sharing knowledge with the girl.
Alexa silent. Maybe Azlan was right, Alexa had a lot to learn about the Qur’an. How could he have believed the book without studying it? He did not understand religion, and indeed never introduced religion by his parents. He attended Santa Maria, a non-Muslim school, from elementary school to high school. He does not know his own religion. One of the reasons Mr. Joan sent him there, was because the school was of good quality. In terms of quality, the school is the master.
“This reading can make us forget about life problems, can eliminate boredom, can also make us feel calm. Are you interested in this reading?” Azlan pointed at the reading inside his phone.
Alexa was silent because her brain was at work questioning what Azlan was saying to her.
