Victory in Life
Chapter 672

Marcus Coine's remarks reflected his extreme arrogance.

Even Chad frowned after listening to what he said.

"Mr Wright, I changed my mind."

Jasper turned around and told Chad.

As Chad's expression turned into confusion, Jasper spoke in a calm and restrained tone, "JW Electronics wants to buy a piece of land as soon as possible. If someone wants to snatch it from us, let's auction it to decide who will get it" he said.

Jasper suddenly understood something from Marcus Coine's proud and arrogant attitude.

At this point in time, there were still many people like him in this country.

Most of them rely on their parents' connections to establish considerable influence in their area. However, they chose not to follow the same path as their parents.

The only way for people like this to make it big is through running a business. After all, most of them were already used to being the dominant force in the local district due to the influence of their parents.

Marcus Coine considered the City of Reed to be his territory. Therefore, anyone who wanted to enter the city had to show him some respect by giving him some benefits.

The city of Reed had Marcus Coine, but there was most likely someone like Marcus in the other districts as well.

Therefore, Jasper could not continue to give up on them.

He needs to do something so that those who view JW as an easy target will learn to look at themselves well before acting out of the rules.

As soon as Jasper finished speaking, Marcus burst into laughter. Chad hasn't even responded yet.

"Hahaha, no one has dared to go against me in Reed City for so many years. It seems like someone who is not afraid of death is here today."

Marcus glanced at Jasper to the side. His gaze was dripping with sarcasm and ridicule. "I know you're from the Southeastern Province, Laine. How would I describe that place? Even though there are some decent families there, they are still nothing compared to the families here" he said.

"If you think you're capable of fighting me just because you're someone there, you'll die a painful death."

"Listen to my advice. You can go back to where you came from, or salute me until I'm satisfied with your performance. All you need is a nod of my head, and you won't face any problems even if you destroy half of Reed City."

Jasper looked at Marcus with an unchanging expression. "Then, how much respect do you need to satisfy, Mr Coine?" She asked.

Marcus rubbed his thumb against his index and middle fingers indifferently. He chuckled and said, "I won't ask for much. I'll make it simple. You just need to prepare an amount equal to the amount you spent to buy that piece of land."

"Is 200 million dollars enough?" Jasper asked knowingly.

"We're all grown men. You don't have to say things so frankly" Marcus said.

"Your planning is very neat, Mr. Coine. You simply flicked your finger three times, and now you intend to take 200 million dollars out of my pocket. You're earning money at a rate far beyond me" Jasper said.

Marcus laughed out loud. "You have your own way, and so do I. Let's just say it's a toll, but you won't leave with anything either. As long as you pay me this amount of money, I will look after your factory in the future. No one from Reed City would dare to cause trouble for you," he said.

"So, you mean, if I don't pay you this amount of money, this factory will have nothing to do with you, and people will come to damage my property every day. Am I right?" ask Jasper.

Marcus chuckles. "Not bad at all. No wonder you have so many assets at such a young age. You understand that quickly. You seem like a smart person too, so I guess you know what decisions to make. It's better to ward off disaster by making a payment than to beg for mercy in front of me after going through a lot of hardships, right?"

Excitement flashed across Marcus' face. He was just about to say something when Jasper spoke again.

"Forget 200 million dollars, I won't even give you two cents."

Jasper's expression remained expressionless. It seemed that he did not notice the dissatisfied expression on Marcus' face. "If you want money, get it through your own efforts. Of course, it doesn't matter to me if you prefer to do forbidden work, because everyone needs to make a living. However, don't try your dirty tricks on me. I will never compromise on any extortion attempt. Understood?"

Marcus' expression became furious. He looked at Jasper coldly and said, "Have you just mocked me?"

"I just want to get a thorough understanding of the type of person like you," Jasper said calmly.

"Ha-ha!" Marcus let out an angry laugh. He raised his finger and pointed to the tip of Jasper's nose. "Well, since you're so adamant against me, let's wait and see what happens next" he said.

"Let me remind you, Laine, you're just an outsider here. You want to fight me? Why don't you look at yourself first? Do you really think that you are invincible just because you have money?"

Jasper shrugged and said, "You're right, there's nothing impressive about having money. However, you're mad at me because you're ashamed that you can't get my money. Isn't that more sad?"

Marcus gritted his teeth furiously. At that moment, he realized how smoothly the young man standing before him spoke.

Even so, Marcus suppressed his anger and said, "Little scoundrel, sharp tongue is nothing to be proud of. I told you what I wanted to say today. If you manage to buy that 1500-acre plot of land, I'll adopt your last name!"

"Wait and just look!"

Marcus exclaimed furiously. After that, he turned around and left.

After seeing the Mercedes fade in the distance, Jasper turned towards Chad, who was smiling bitterly at him. "Mr Wright, I need you to pay extra attention to the auction. Please be resolved soon," he said.

"Auction is a very simple affair because I will only report to my superiors. I didn't think there would be any trouble in that. It can even be held tomorrow. However, Marcus Coine is difficult to deal with, Mr. Laine," Chad explained immediately.

After making sure no one was around, Chad lowered his voice while talking to Jasper. "Grandfather Marcus Coine is a respected senior of the older generation who's been at war. He retired a few years ago."

"Although the old man was now in his twilight, he had managed Reed City for decades. He has the highest voice in everything that happens in Reed City."

Chad is an official from the city government, so it's risky for him to reveal so much insider information to Jasper because his job is at stake.

Jasper nodded solemnly. "Mr Wright, thank you for your kind warning. However, I have no intention of giving up on him. I don't believe that people will cause trouble for me just because of running a legal business in Reed City. How did that happen?" She asked.

"The old man has lived through difficult times. He shouldn't want to see his granddaughter behave that way."

Chad sighed in despair as it seemed impossible to convince Jasper. Therefore, he did not say anything more.

He felt Jasper was too naive.

Not everyone in the world follows such an ideal principle.

When people grow old, isn't their only hope being that their children and grandchildren live in safety and well-being?

"Alright, we're going to have an auction tomorrow" Chad said.
